10 Symptoms Of Ovulation

10 Symptoms Of Ovulation

Ovulation is one part of the female menstrual cycle whereby a mature ovarian follicle (part of the ovary) discharges an egg (also known as an ovum, oocyte, or female gamete). It is during this process that the egg travels down the fallopian tube where it may be met by a sperm and become fertilized.

The signs of ovulation vary from woman to woman. It is possible that some women will not even experience ovulation symptoms. The time of ovulation varies for every woman. Some women ovulate like clock-work on the same day of their cycle every month. Other women may ovulate on varying days each month.

When a woman ovulates, hormonal changes take places that cause a number of physical symptoms. By paying attention to your body, you can tell when you are most fertile and close to ovulating.

10 Symptoms that will tell you that you are ovulating:-

  • Cervical Mucus – You know when your body produces a certain kind or mucus you could be ovulating. It will be thick, stretchy and egg like in consistency as opposed to the thick sticky one produced normally. The thin mucus helps sperm to glide through the vagina and up to the awaiting egg.
  • Wet Icky Feeling – The mucus that is thinner is also produced in a larger quantity and gives you a constant wet feeling. When you are fertile you will feel wetter and your vagina will feel more lubricated during intercourse. Around ovulation period, you tend feel wetter throughout the day not just during inter course.
  • Tender Breasts – Some women notice breast tenderness, similar to premenstrual breast tenderness, right around the time they ovulate. Other women may not notice this until after they ovulate. In either case, if you notice breast tenderness there is a good chance you are ovulating or have ovulated recently.
  • Pain and Cramping – A lot of women experience cramps during the time they ovulate. Cramping on just one side  can also occur as the fallopian tube contracts to move the egg down the fallopian tube into the uterus.

  • Bloating – The same way as you experience a bloated full feeling right before your menstrual cycle, similarly you feel the same if you are ovulating as well. Since your hormones are changing so your body is also responding accordingly.
  • Nausea – A lot of women experience nausea just before their periods start. Hormonal changes during ovulation can also cause you to feel slightly nauseous.
  • Higher Cervix – The position of your cervix can also tell if you are fertile. Right after your menstrual cycle your cervix will be low, hard and closed. During ovulation, it should be higher up and softer. It will also feel more open.
