5 Sweet/Dessert Recipes For Your Toddler

Sweet dishes and desserts are anyone’s favourite. They not only give you a change in taste but also help in digesting food. The following lines contain some of the healthy dessert preparations that will give your child an added reason to adore you.

The ‘Banana Ice Cream’:

To prepare this dessert the ingredients given below are required:

  • Frozen bananas
  • You may also add cacao nibs, almond butter, goji berries, peanut butter or other fresh berries, maple syrup, ‘brown rice’ syrup, honey, optional sweetener.

Allow 2 ripe large bananas to freeze for at least1 hour. Next, peel them and have them cut into small pieces. Put these frozen banana pieces into a blender and turn it on until they become creamy. You can add the optional ingredients for added flavour.

The ‘Milky Ice Lollies’:

To make 4 ice-lollies ingredients required are:

  • 1/3 cup or 75g of ‘mixed fruit’ puree (which may include peaches, banana, kiwi, strawberries, de-seeded raspberries)
  • 1cup or 250g of formula or fresh milk
  • Moulds for ice-lollies

Add the fruit puree and the milk (1/5th) in one bowl until a paste is formed. Now add the rest of the milk and continuously whisk the mixture. Pour the mixture into your ice-lollies mould and put them into the freezer. Before serving allow the mould to run under tap water (warm) for a maximum of 30 seconds to let the lolly easily come out in shape.

The ‘Chunky Blueberry Applesauce’:

To prepare this sweet dish the ingredients required are:

  • 1 pint of fresh ‘organic blueberries’
  • 2 organic ‘granny smith’ apples that have been peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon of agave nectar
  • ¼ cup of orange juice

Pour all the ingredients into a saucepan and let them cook on ‘medium heat’ uncovered till such time the apples become soft and the liquid in the pan has reduced. If your toddler is old enough to bite on chunks leave it in that stage to cool, otherwise run the chunky apples through a ‘food mill’ for making a smooth paste.

The ‘Sweet Potato and Banana Mash’:

To prepare this recipe the ingredients required are:

  • 1 whole sweet potato
  • 1 whole banana
  • Cinnamon- 1 pinch
  • Nutmeg- 1 pinch
  • 2 teaspoons if orange juice (do not add this in case your child is less than 1 year in age)
  • Honey drop (only for 1 year and above toddlers)

Have the oven preheated to at least 180 degree Celsius or 375 Fahrenheit and dump the sweet potato for around an hour to become tender. After peeling the banana have it cut lengthwise into half and place it on a baking dish that has been lightly greased. Bake this banana for a maximum of 20v minutes till it softens. Mash the baked banana and sweet potato with the rest of the spices, honey and orange juice (if you are using it) until smooth. Warm the mash in your oven and cool it to serve.

The ‘Yoghurt and Berry Swirl’:

For this dessert the ingredients required are:

  • 1 peeled mango
  • 1 peeled banana
  • 1 punnet of blueberries
  • Organic or natural yoghurt

Either buy organic yoghurt or prepare it at home. Heat the blueberries punnet on the stove along with ¼ cup of water till such time it becomes soft and syrup is formed. Have the blueberries removed from the pan and allow it to come down to the room temperature. Blend the syrup based blueberries with mango and banana. This mixture should be completely smooth. However, it should not be ‘runny’. Place the mixture into a serving cup and pour the yoghurt above it. Using a spoon stir the mixture to make a swirl. Serve chilled.
