Celebrities With Thyroid Disorder
Thyroid issues can really get us down sometimes and one of the common questions we ask ourselves is, “Why Me??” It feels like we have been targetted by the universe and are the only ones left to pick up the pieces. But this is not so. It’s ok to wallow in self-pity for a tiny bit, but most important to bounce back and realise that its not the end of the world. There are far worse diseases in the world and so many who have it…And thyroid imabalances are best managed as in comparison to other ailments one may have. So it’s important that we stop thinking of ourselves as ‘Victims’ and start moving forward.
Today, we’ll be looking at some celebrities who also have thyroid issues and don’t let it stop them from doing anything. They are ‘role-models who have not like this bring them down and rather and chosen to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
The “Modern Family” star battled thyroid cancer in 2000. She didn’t have any symptoms when she was diagnosed. The sassy Spanish actress had her thyroid removed and underwent radioactive iodine treatment. Now she takes Synthroid to regulate her hormone levels.
The “Sex and the City” star suffers from Hashimoto’s disease. This condition is the most common cause of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) in the United States. Your immune system attacks your thyroid gland when you have this disorder.
The daytime TV queen announced she was having trouble with her thyroid in 2007. Winfrey said she suffered from both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid.) The talk show host claimed her thyroid issues were cured in 2009. She said she was off thyroid medications and her levels were in the normal range.

Actress and screenwriter Nia Vardalos, best known for her role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, has Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
The daughter of famous rocker, Ozzy Osbourne, blamed an untreated thyroid condition for rapid weight loss in 2007. She lost nearly 30 pounds and it’s likely she suffered from hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid.) It was reported that she refused treatment for her problem because of fears of regaining weight.
