Healthy Indian Food Recipes For 18 Months Babies

My close friend is due this November and I have already flooded her with all these baby care posts from WiseShe Baby Blog so that she never runs out of ideas for baby food recipes and many more useful informative posts, only if she gets little time, managing office and home along with the baby!

So for those mommies, who little one are completing their 18 months this month or later, here I ave something interesting to share with them!

Yes, these are healthy baby recipes for those babies who are about one and a half years old and are easily able to digest solid food!

Mix Dal Khichdi-

This is an instantly prepared food recipe every mom resorts to when their kid starts taking solid food. You can always try making different khichdi recipes by different pulses available! Like this one uses a mix of all pulses like moong, urad, chana, masoor, plain dal etc.


  • 2 tbsp Mix dal
  • 2-3 tbsp Rice (uncooked)
  • 1-2 tsp butter


Wash both the ingredients together and pressure cook both the ingredients together for about 10-15 minutes on medium flame. The dal and rice will be cooked properly and will be easily digested by the kid! Let the pressure subside. Serve the Khichdi a little above at room temperature and put butter on the top! Your toddler is going to love it!

Rava Idli-

Using urad dal for kids so young may not be a very good idea because sometimes they are not able to digest it properly which may lead to acidity in kids and discomfort.

Making instant idli’s from Rava or sooji is definitely a good idea!


  • Sooji- 3-4 tbsp
  • Eno – 1-2 pinches
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh Curd


  • Soak the rava and curd for about 30-45 minutes and mix well! Add water fora  rich thick consistency.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Keep the idli mould ready with water boiling!
  • Now add few pinches of Eno salt and mix lightly!
  • Start pouring the mix in the idli stand which is already greased and put it in the idli maker.
  • After 8-10 minutes cheack whether the idli is sticky or comes out clean with a toothpick!
  • If it is ready, the idli won’t stick! Turn off the flame and let it stand for a few minutes!
  • Serve fresh instant rava idlis with sambhar! Your little one will love it!

Chicken Roast

This is yet another healthy and yummy food recipes for those babies where non-vegetarian food is not a problem! And it is all right to give chicken recipes at this age!


  • 100- 250g Chicken (tender boneless)
  • 2-3 tsp Oil
  • Dry whole spices( cinnamon stick, cardamom, clove etc.)
  • 1 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp Garam masala powder/ chicken masala


  • Add the dry spices and add chicken to the pan. Put the ginger-garlic mix and let it cook for a while after covering it with a lid on lowest flame.
  • Add onion and  saute it till it turns transparent!
  • Add turmeric, garam masala, salt, pepper powder etc. and let everything cook on the lowest flame! Keep string it after few minutes. You can add 1 tsp oil if the mix looks dry!
  • Let the chicken cook with the low heat for about 10-12 minutes covered and after that switch off the flame and let it stand for another 12-15 minutes! Serve hot to your child!
