How I Lost Weight After Baby PCOS

Hey Everyone!

I have been really worried about my weight since the time I conceived. Simple reason is the PCOS which keeps playing with my hormones and makes me feel as if I am going to stay overweight throughout my life :(.

I gained around 14kgs during my pregnancy, where maximum weight gain was in the last trimester when in one of the weeks, I ended up gaining almost 3-4 kgs. It was disheartening but I chose motherhood before anything else so I had to face it. When you are pregnant , every body tells you how glowing you look and compliment you every day. But the moment baby came out – those very people started telling me how fat I am. One of my aunts told me : “Your tummy was so big but your child is so thin then why you had to undergo c section?”. They don’t realise what we are going through . It is not easy to handle a new life with a baby and zillion other things and these weight issue just takes a toll on you.

WEIGHT LOSS POCOS

Like you, even I thought that it won’t be possible for “ME” to do it but I have one quality. I never give up and because of which I kept trying . My biggest worry was my doctor’s words who told me that I will be back with PCOS if I don’t come to my ideal weight. I seriously don’t want to live my whole life on medicines so I was ready to do anything to lose weight.

Below are the things which I did and still didn’t lose weight –

  • I completely eliminated rice, parathas and most outside food from my diet. I occasionally used to have daal bati sold near my home which is dipped in ghee but nothing as such which will make me feel guilty.
  • I joined a fancy gym (gold gym) and took 20,000 INR membership.I tried going every day but with a baby, professional work and extreme cold I use to manage it only 3-4 times a week, although I wish to go atleast 5- days. My weight reduced by 1 kg their but we all know that initial weight loss is nothing great when starting in gym. Then in the gym, the trainer there started telling me how I need to take subscribe to personnel trainer to knock off all the weight otherwise I won’t be able to shed it off.
  • I tried hard to reduce roti/chapati/Indian flat bread from my dinner so to do that I included egg salad , soups and one chapati . Idea was to go low on the carbs but some how it was difficult and my weight was still intact.
  • We have a lady in the gym she is extremely fit and she suggested me to not to worry about weight loss and focus on the kid.As per her, she lost all the weight with in three years. I seriously couldn’t wait that long. I am not that patient in this regard. If not anything, I wanted to fit into my old clothes now what weight loss has taken place I want to reduce more though 😉
  • I never missed my breakfast and had all the oil free things too.In the evening all those  fat free chats so that I am not famished at night.

Reading above really seems to be lot of effort.I did that with a baby and whole blog with its team to manage.

.I was there to checkout some more healthy recipe to reduce my weight 😀 but then checked out her personalised diet plan section.I thought and thought and then mailed her.Why I chose her diet plan? because as per dietcian Nishi grover 80% of weight loss takes place because of the diet we follow and rest 20% is with exercising. So I was going to the gym and what was lacking was a diet plan.

After following her diet plan I lost around 3.5 kgs in 7-8 days !

A little about her diet plan which made me lose weight :-

  • First thing is I was asked to have paratha :O .WOW! What else do  I need.Something which was a complete No No earlier. So my breakfast now consists of parathas, cheela and many other things which I never use to have before. Infact I start planning my breakfast a night before nowadays 🙂
  • When you have been struggling with your weight loss since ages and keep reading new things you will end up getting confused. This is what happened to me. She asked me to include paneer/Indian cheese, coconut etc in my diet plan which too I had removed from my diet. Infact coconut also..Tell me about it ..When you have gained weight every thing makes you put on more ..grrr.
  • Her diet plan is same which we all know.Increase protein and reduce carbs but the trick I think is to follow it blindly. Also some other tips like having  cumin seeds water was also awesome  which I had no clue about.
  • She lets you drink smoothies too but with a little bit of variation. Isn’t she fantastic ?
  • She takes daily update of your energy level so it’s not that i am feeling weak whole day around.

Sangeeta designed my diet plan as per my life style, my eating habits etc and what I like and don’t like. For instance, I don’t eat eggs at my parents’ place so I was worried thinking what I might have to eat in breakfast but she gave the paratha option 😀

The funny thing was – Two days back I asked me papa whether our weight machine is right. He replied “Yes” and questioned me back why I was asking for it.I smiled because I couldn’t believe that I have been losing weight so easily 🙂

Following her diet plan was easy for me because I have been pretty strict on my self before. Moreover, I am breastfeeding my baby which she took into account that too which my mom was worried about. She thought that it’s going to affect the feeding but that too was completely normal.

With this its not that I had all the tasty stuff throughout the day.I have not been eating carbs at night and first two days it was bad but now it has become a habit.

So you want to see my before and after picture ? Not before I get a nice  dress for myself to flaunt it ..

More later ..As I still have 6 kgs  or may be more 😉 as I want to be really fit this time and go for a beach vacation and wear bikini tops.

Stay Blessed 🙂

  1. This is great Anamika. Her diet seems so satisfying yet effective. My cousin had consulted Suman Agarwal and she too was advised to eat paneer, other dairy products and vegetables as she was feeding her baby. Does Sangeeta Khanna charge anything for diet advice?

  2. This sounds good 🙂 I’ve been trying to loose weight too… How much Sangeeta charge to offer personalized diet plans?
BTW I so agree with you on the annoying relatives (specially aunt’s) comments…

  4. That sounds great! I’ve got insulin resistance and the dieticians I’ve visited haven’t made much of a dent in my excess weight so far… Thanks so much for posting about her! How much does she charge? Is it a one-time fee or per month or something? Thanks in advance! ^_^

  5. amazing anamika! u have great will power. i am also hoping to get back to my pre pregnancy weight by manya’s first birthday,,,but haven’t started on a plan yet. time to get motivated for me too!

  6. Congratulations Anks! Well done! Like you mentioned, even I believe that diet is very, very imp for proper weight loss.

    • You proved it babes..admire your will power.

      • Even I got sick of “well-meaning” comments from certain section of relatives. It is so odd, when I was at my biggest I wld constantly get lectured on how it is unhealthy, which is true. But now that I have lost weight, there are no comments at all from these very ppl. They pretend like there is no change. 😛

        • haha seriously..other day i went to my relative and she didn’t said anything about my weight….haan! one of her babhi said that couple of kgs more will be good too..:D

Greetings to all New Mums 🙂

I am a regular reader of your blog, be it make-up stuff or the child care. This particular topic has intrigued and prompted me to share my weight loss journey after C-section. I had c-section done in dec-2011, and within 1 year I have managed to loose 14kgs. I followed 3 rules after c-section, Heavy breast-feeding, brisk walks, and very light dinners. Also Kapal-bhati (yoga) helped me a great deal for the tummy to sink in. It feels wonderful to slip into those pre-baby apparels :-))))
More than anything it takes discipline to win this war against weight 😉

    • so true..and i do try to do kapal bharti but keep forgetting it in the morning 🙁

thing is i m just 2-3 kg away from my pre pregnancy weight..as i was little plump before also i would like to lose more 🙂

  14. Yay to you Anu…congrats on the weight loss…I also want to see your before and after pics…

  15. hi ana..i so empathise with u..
im at my highest eer weight now..65 kgs andi dont look fat but my problem is that i dont fit into my old S/34 size dresses;( also my jeans are crying to fit my tummy..just cant wait to start dieting and excercising;))but its only 55 days now!!

  16. ana.. u were asking me why am i so bothered abt my wt,, il share it here.. i was a fat kid and even i have faced well meaning comments from so called frnds n relatives.. when i lost all puppy fat ppl acted as if nuthing has happened.. i kno i have the tendency to gain wt easily n tht why i try to stay fit..i loved the honesty with which u have written the post. For all my so called well meaning relative who only commented… it was a big blow to then tht the fat kid in the house became an airhostess with the best airline in india….

  17. NIce post Anamika…Thanks for sharing!

My secret to losing all the baby weight was nursing on demand…I was back in shape within a year and didn’t do anything else.

    Priyanka

  18. Way to go girl! Such an honest and inspiring post, how do I reach your dietician..through her blog only?

  19. dats a great achievement ana.. i underwent 3 surgeries in 4 yrs.. i tried to reduce weight in between these surgeries but couldnt do it vigorously. though i m not much fatty, i want to reduce cos i have pocs prb too.. since last 2-3 months, i have put more effort.. i find eating variety of food in a meal (in less amt) reduces fat.. for ex for dinner.. i eat chapatis with an egg omelette, a curry with vegetables/ dhal and a fruit salad.. it takes some more time to prepare dinner.. anyhow, i make salad for my son thought why not prepare for me too.. my belly fat has reduced much after me eating this way.. 🙂

  20. This is so awesome..The min u told me bout her, I decided i’m going to indulge soon..This Pcos and thyroid is such a bother..plus the fact that im finicky about food AND m not much into cooking doesnt help much..this wud be perfect for me…

Kudos to u A!! sacch me…the diet is awesome but u need t be applauded too for sticking to it…God knows if I’d have done it.. 🙂

btw i hv lost 4 kgs. in 3 months 😀 only dieting… no exercising though.. lazy bum! 🙁

    • good na..no hard work and still losing weight..but for me exercising is something which i want to make part of my life.I would want my daughter also to take it up 🙂

  23. Oh wow that’s wonderful Anamika. My baby is 6 months now , I haven’t put on much during pregnancy and even after delivery :):) Thanks to my good metabolic rate that I burn calories fast 🙂

Luckily I can fit into my pre maternity clothes too … 🙂 However I am thinking of toning my body so that the sagginess is gone and I feel fit ,as of now breastfeeding + balancing my prof + personal lyf is my fitness mantra 🙂

    Cheers

  24. Hi Anamika, I had put on only 6 kgs in my entire pregnancy that too with the help of medication and once my baby came out weighing 2 kgs, I was back to my pre-pregnancy state. But breast-feeding my baby used to make me so hungry that I would eat like a hog. No sooner would I have a meal than I would be thinking of my next meal. It was driving me crazy and I had put on tremendous weight because of it. Now I have stopped nursing, my weight is not that much and I still fit into my pre-pregnancy. s but still need to reduce the flab from tummy. Also, need to tone the body. I usually read a lot of pregnancy/child-care sites for their nutrition and exercise tips (I am not a big fan of going to the gyms as I am not a disciplined person). Yoga is a good way to lose weight combined with healthy eating. I read that on a site, http://www.humptybumptykids.com/benefits-of-post-natal-yoga-for-weight-loss/. Nice yogasanas, might help.

  25. Hi Anamika,

Congrats for your weight loss. I am regular reader of your blog. I myself have reduced 13 Ks with diet plan and 40 min treadmill workout 5 times in a week. I have to loose 5 more kgs but now I have reached on plateau stage where my weight machine is not ready to move. Could you please suggest what exercise routine do you follow. What are the benefits of cumin seeds in water. I take methi dana water early morning.

    Thanks
    Anali

  26. Hi Ana,
Congratulations on your weight loss.. you look fab dear…8 months and so much weight loss, WOW..i have few questions, hope you dont mind answering..
how long did you take to get back to exercising and diet after C-sec? did the diet changes affect your breastfeeding? i mean milk production and all..
am just few days postpartum but want to start good eating habits from the begining. I had a tough time losing weight after my first one. Dont want to make the same mistakes again..

    • Hi, Congratulations…i have bee taking care of my diet after my c section but i hav never starved myself..for milk production i took roasted jeera in all my sabji and had lot of butter milk with roasted cumin seeds/jeera.it really helped me out.
