Pregnancy comes with its set of surprises. You may develop a new liking for certain foods and dislike the ones you loved. You may suddenly become sensitive to certain things which you earlier didn’t even know existed. The glowing pregnancy skin does not show up on everybody. Acne

You can have acne during pregnancy even if you didn’t have them earlier. The ladies who already had acne, can go through a worse phase of acne. Besides face, acne can appear on chest and back as well.

To deal with acne, remember the basics. Do not touch, rub or pop acne. Use mild cleanser to wash your face twice a day. Use only oil-free moisturisers. If you want to try any topical solutions or other medicine for acne, always consult your doctor before trying anything as not every product is safe for pregnant women.

Stretch Marks

Women get stretch marks on legs, thighs, tummy, sides and lower back. These areas undergo a lot of strain and stretch marks are formed. There is no home remedy and other product that can make these marks fade away completely.

Keep your skin moisturised with a good moistuirser and also drink good amount of water. Light scrubbing of stretch marks prone area also helps. There are some products that help in lightening stretch marks to some extent and you can try them too. Find out more about stretch marks here.

Itching

Some women may get really dry skin during pregnancy. Too dry skin leads to itching as well. To deal with skin dryness, use a good moisturiser all over body concentrating on the extra scaly areas. You can also use a humidifier in your room that will make the environment moist and will help your skin to a great extent.

Rashes

The most common type of rashes during pregnancy are pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP). These start appearing on tummy first and can spread to whole body. These are not harmful for baby but can be problematic for you. They are small red bumps and can be itchy as well.

Consult your doctor for the right medication in case of PUPPP.

Sensitive Skin

You skin may get extra sensitive to sun exposure when you are pregnant. It results in dark patches on face.

Avoid sun exposure as much as you can and wear a good sunscreen even at home. If you have to go out in the sun, cover your face with a hat or scarf besides slathering on SPF. Use an umbrella as well.

  1. Yeah all the points you have mentioned are very true and my clients who come to maternity shoot are very specific that when I process photos mention to me to take care of the skin issues in photoshop :-)
